About This Place

Perched gracefully within the lobby of the Kaimana Beach Hotel on Kalākaua Avenue, Hau Tree offers a vibrant blend of island charm and contemporary dining that perfectly captures the essence of Honolulu’s coastal allure. This restaurant is a sophisticated yet welcoming haven where locals and travelers alike can indulge in a thoughtfully curated menu showcasing fresh, local flavors with a modern twist.

The cuisine at Hau Tree masterfully balances classic Hawaiian favorites with inventive dishes that tease the palate and delight the senses. Mornings beckon with brunch offerings like the sublime Hau Tree Eggs Benedict—a velvety marriage of perfectly poached eggs and rich hollandaise perched atop ham, spinach, cured salmon, or crab cake, each variation elevated by nuanced touches and impeccable execution. The Avocado Toast and Lemon Ricotta Pancakes add a bright, fresh zest to start the day, while the Hau Tree French Toast offers indulgent comfort wrapped in layers of bold flavor.

When the sun settles and the evening breeze rolls in, the dinner menu reveals a treasure trove of sophisticated plates. The Seared Maine Scallops and Soft Shell Crab Benedict speak to the kitchen’s finesse with seafood, while hearty selections like Lamb Chops and the quintessential Hawaiian Loco Moco offer satisfying warmth and depth. For a lighter touch, the array of Lau‘ai Vegetable salads—including the ancient grain Greek salad and kale-spinach mix bursting with strawberries and toasted almonds—provide vibrant, refreshing options.

Complementing these dishes is an inspired beverage program featuring iconic island cocktails such as the perfectly balanced Mai Tai and the delightfully crisp Aperol Spritz, alongside carefully selected wines like the robust Cabernet Sauvignon. Whether sipping an Ube Pina Colada at sunset or indulging in fresh-squeezed juices earlier in the day, guests are treated to an experience that engages all the senses.

What truly sets Hau Tree apart is its enchanting location and ambiance. Dining just steps from the Pacific Ocean, guests are embraced by the gentle rustle of swaying trees and panoramic beach views that create a serene, tropical backdrop. Reviewers consistently praise the restaurant’s “magical” beachside vibe, noting how the unique tree-inspired décor seamlessly blends with the natural environment to foster a relaxing, intimate atmosphere.

Patrons rave about the exceptional service, highlighting attentive and warm staff who elevate each visit into a memorable occasion. Many cherish the restaurant as a go-to spot for special moments—from honeymoon dinners accompanied by complimentary sparkling wine and desserts to casual brunches celebrated with friends. The combination of thoughtfully prepared plates, scenic beauty, and genuine hospitality makes Hau Tree not just a meal, but an experience.

In summary, Hau Tree stands out as a must-visit destination for those seeking a refined yet unpretentious taste of Hawaiian cuisine infused with global influences. It perfectly balances inventive culinary creativity with heartfelt island spirit, all underpinned by a stunning beachfront setting that invites guests to linger a little longer and savor every bite. Nice and cute. Disclaimer: The pictures that you normally see online are curated to show a very specific part of the restaurant. Call ahead and make reservations. Ok now to my experience. Food was really good with beautiful presentation. My favorite was the Eggs Benedict, we got the signature ones and the salmon ones, both were very good. Not much of a fan pf their version of “Shakshouka”. Its a very different dish than what i know as shakshouka in both flavor and presentation. Not a fan, but to each their own. Beautiful spot and very good service. The person serving us was very helpful and attentive, also made great cocktails recommendations; always a plus.

The avocado egg Benedict is exceptional. The eggs were perfectly poached, the hollandaise was rich but not overpowering, and the avocado added a fresh, creamy balance that elevated the entire dish. Every bite felt thoughtfully prepared, with high quality ingredients and excellent execution. It is easily one of the best Benedict variations I have had on Oahu. The chicken sandwich was equally impressive. The chicken was juicy, well seasoned, and cooked to perfection, paired with a soft yet sturdy bun and fresh toppings that complemented the flavors without overwhelming them. It struck the ideal balance between comfort food and elevated dining. Combined with the unbeatable oceanfront setting, relaxed island atmosphere, and attentive service, Hau Tree delivers a dining experience that feels both refined and effortlessly Hawaiian. This is a must visit spot for brunch or lunch in Honolulu, and I would happily return for these dishes alone.

We had such a great time here! The chilled vibes with the ocean, the sand, and the trees around made it feel so relaxing. The menu has plenty of options with nice local flavors. We tried the ahi poisson cru, cured salmon Benedict, ube cinnamon roll, and some fresh orange juice. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented, and the staff were really friendly too. One funny thing, there were pigeons everywhere! The moment they spot an opportunity, they’ll swoop right onto your table and try to steal a bite. They’re cute, but also a little annoying our lovely little companions at Hau Tree.

This restaurant was truly magical. The beachside view was so amazing. It really gives the holiday vibe. The tree decor inside the restaurant was really unique. The dishes did not disappoint either. I highly recommend ordering the poke cornet and the eggplant is the best I’ve ever had. The pastas were nice, but not as outstanding as other dishes A bit on the pricey side, but worth it for the experience and food.

We had the most amazing last meal of our honeymoon here. The sunset was just stunning. The ube pina colada was incredible. Focaccia and pasta also great. Service was amazing, such lovely staff. They made the night very special for us - even bringing out some congratulatory sparkling wine and dessert on the house. Could not recommend this restaurant enough.

Our experience at Hau Tree was absolutely amazing! The atmosphere was beautiful, and our server Gabe was the best we could’ve asked for — so kind, attentive, and truly made the night special. The Wagyu sirloin was incredible (especially with the dip ), and the eggplant, local fish, and burrata with tomatoes were all to die for. Thank you, Gabe, for making our anniversary dinner the best! Easily one of our favorite meals in Waikiki — 10/10 recommend!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a wonderful dinner at Hau Tree! The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented, and the oceanfront setting made the evening extra special. It’s also a great spot for families — our toddler loved her meal and enjoyed watching the boats go by. Such a relaxing, baby-friendly place with amazing service. Highly recommend for a lovely dinner by the water!
